This tiff Day is Xmas in July

Rian Johnson's 'Looper' is opening tiff 2012 on Sept 6.
For North American cinephiles, the last week in July is our Christmas in July as we wait with abaited breath to see what are the first 60+ films to be announced! An impressive list of  high profile directors are debuting their films in Toronto in September, including the reclusive Terrence Malik. But what's the big news is that a potential Hollywood Blockbuster 'Looper' starring the impressive Joseph Gordon-Levitt (John Blake in 'The Dark Knight Rises') is the opening night film. For the first 7 years of attending tiff, I never went to opening night because of budget, and work issues, but last year was my first time and I loved the more calm before the storm excitement of the city. Looper is a futuristic action thriller, my favorite genre.

So, for my 9th tiff, so far, the list looks very impressive! Keep in mind that over 150 more films will be added to the festival over the next 4 weeks.

Rian Johnson ("Looper"), - OPENING NIGHT FILM
Ben Affleck ("Argo"),
Deepa Mehta ("Midnight's Children"),
Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski ("Cloud Atlas"),
David O. Russell "(The Silver Linings Playbook"),
Joe Wright ("Anna Karenina"),
Ramin Bahrani ("At Any Price"),
Neil Jordan ("Byzantium"),
Mira Nair ("The Reluctant Fundamentalist"),
Robert Redford ("The Company You Keep"),
Cate Shortland ("Lore"),
Francois Ozon ("In The House"),
Roger Michell ("Hyde Park on Hudson"),
Joss Whedon ("Much Ado About Nothing"),
Robert Pilcini and Shari Springer Berman ("Imogene"),
